Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach in a school where 100% of our student population receive free or reduced-price lunches. Many do not have the luxury of owning their own books! I would like to send the students home for the summer with one if not two books for them to read.

I would like to empower them with words and situations that are different and yet the same as their own.

I want them to see that the characters in a book such as Esperanza Rising struggle and grow and that the characters in Wonder struggle with being different and face social bias.

The gift of a book can never be underestimated. It allows a person to visit unknown lands, befriend unusual characters, and walk in the shoes of someone else.
