My Students

My students are self-motivated to learn anything about everything! They question constantly to seek answers but also question those answers. They form opinions based on new learning and love to look for evidence. They are inspired daily to be better people from their families, friends, classmates, and school. The students in my class are driven to succeed and work hard to be the best that they can be. They are a joy and pleasure to work with and learn from. Although we are all learning from home, we are connected through stories, shared learning, and collaboration. I feel privileged to be a part of their lives during this pandemic.

My Project

My students just completed their first novel study together and the classroom discussions were incredible and engaging! From their different homes in different cities, they were able to share a common story to think about and discuss together. It was magical.

Each student will receive a copy of Mr. Terupt.

This book will be read as a class and will be the shared text for future engaging classroom discussions. The students will feel connected to the characters in this story, hear their voices, and learn about loss together. This story is told from multiple perspectives and students can view the plot through the different lenses that the plot enables students to see through. The language of the book is accessible to all the students despite the sophistication of the author's writing and word choice. We will explore voice and authors' intention among many other author's craft techniques.

All of my students are home and will not all be together physically for this year, and perhaps next year as well and I would like to give them the gift of an amazing story to share and learn from.
