A Beautiful Classroom Environment Supports Student Learning
Help me give my students lighting, a rug, LED lights, inspirational quotes, a meditation/calming/reading chair, contact paper to cover old cabinets, a bookshelf, and a mobile organizer to create a calm and soothing classroom.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
A beautiful, serene, peaceful, and thoughtful classroom is one of the most important aspects of teaching. Students sit in our rooms every day for 10 months. The intellectual expectations, the foundations of the core topics (World History and Research), motivation and positivity, comfort and care all are part of classroom set-up and decorations. This mini-grant will allow me to create a beautiful, soothing classroom in a new classroom space as our school merges with another school.
Transitions can be difficult, all the more important to ensure that students are learning in spaces that uplift, support, and educate.
My classroom has been a respite for many students, particularly post-COVID. As the room is changing, this is the perfect opportunity to create something fresh, new, and inspirational for the students. The lighting is soothing and the meditation/calming/reading chair has become a special place in the classroom. The contact paper will be used to cover old cabinets painted puce. The bookshelf will house our classroom library and the organizer will be used for classroom work.
The DonorsChoose community can never fully appreciate what it does for students for whom the educational system has not always been equitable. I will be heading into school to paint the walls of the classroom and these additions will complete the puzzle and add much-needed organization and storage.
