This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My district just adopted a new ELA curriculum last year. This year, we are diving deeper and reading trade books that go along with our reading units. I love that my class is made up of various cultures, and I would love to expose my students to these CKLA culturally diverse trade books. These culturally enriched stories are written from cultural perspectives that provide a deeper understanding of different traditions, experiences, and ways of life.

This type of literature is valuable because it fosters empathy and cultural awareness, combats stereotypes, strengthens a reader's identity, and improves critical thinking skills.

It includes various genres like folklore, fiction, and non-fiction from around the world.
