My Project

One of the things we’re most excited about this year is reading and discussing historical fiction together. These books not only help my students develop their literary analysis skills, but also deepen their understanding of significant moments in our nation’s history.

In November, we’ll begin a book club unit focused on the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II.

This unit is especially meaningful for our 8th graders, as it allows them to explore this chapter of history through the lens of literature.

The books I’ve selected center on children who are the same age as my students and who experienced life in Japanese internment camps. By seeing the events unfold through the eyes of relatable characters, students can more fully imagine what it was like to live through that time. This connection helps build empathy and a deeper understanding of the challenges people faced.

I’m truly excited to share these stories with my students and see where our discussions take us. Thank you so much for supporting our learning community.
