Tuning Up Our String Ensembles!

Help me give my students tuners to help my students take ownership of their own string tuning and improve the intonation of our ensembles.

My Project

Each day, my students need to line up and have me tune their string instruments using my tuner. It's a time consuming, but needed procedure so that students practice correct pitches each rehearsal. Having a set of tuners that I can pass out to students allows them to take ownership of the tuning process; helping them understand the tuning process better and the pitch tendencies of their instrument.

In addition to better overall intonation, with students tuning themselves, we should have more rehearsal time.

This will allow us to play more of the class period, if not more challenging music too!

I have big classes of string students (30-45 students at a time), who are eager to make music with their friends. They are always bummed when I tell them to pack up because they love making music! I lose much needed instructional time in the first third of the period, just making sure everyone's strings are the correct pitch.

These new tuners will help my students tune themselves; ensuring they have more rehearsal time as well as a better intonation, helping the group sound better overall!
