My Students

The beauty of student creation becomes even more evident when you understand the story, challenges, and emotions behind each masterpiece. Located in a low socioeconomic community of New York City, many of my students face challenges at home, are forced to grow up too quickly, and do not have the opportunity to explore the world around them.

Art is an outlet for expression and a place where students can engage in learning through the process of creation.

Once students understand that they can take their emotions, good and bad, and channel them into creativity, the opportunities are endless. There is no greater reward than building a relationship with a child that furthers them not only in the art room; but in life.

My Project

Graduating students in the 8th grade at PS/MS 42 proposed projects aligned to the NYC DOE Blueprint. They have a choice of the Art-Making Strand that they will work under (Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture, and 2D Design) and decided what materials will be needed.

Many students chose to create a clay sculpture, and would like to further their experience with clay by trying a pottery wheel.

Students are asking for help adding a pottery wheel to the studio, so that they can gain another new experience with clay/sculpture. Students with interest will sign up for time slots to use the pottery wheel and can choose to submit their work/add it to their portfolio.
