Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My goal is to ensure that my classroom serves as a safe and welcoming environment for my students. The pathos plant will be placed in a corner of the room (which will be named alongside my students). With this plant, I will introduce the theme of compassion. As they care for the plant I aim to teach students responsibility in caring for someone/something other than themselves. This plant will be placed in a space in the classroom that will be designated for students to enter on days that they are not at their “best”. Peers will be provided with tools on how to communicate with one another to support their peers rather than cause additional harm. Success will be measured with surveys around the theme of compassion and how it is understood and extended to others.

Knowing that someone took a moment to put a little extra care into their learning and to make sure they knew they mattered could make all the difference in a child’s success and overall journey in life!

The laminator and label maker alike will be used to customize items such as folders, tasks and other items to simply allow students to feel "special". The cleaning supplies are aligned with this as well, to ensure that students are also entering a clean environment each and every day.

Lastly, the punch cards will be used a rewards system as students meet or exceed expectations that are agreed upon this school year! I want students to hold themselves accountable and strive for greatness! A small token will be provided to the student once their punch card is complete! I look forward to hearing what type of rewards they have in mind, but more importantly I look forward to seeing them succeed this school year!
