My Students

There is no technology in my classroom. Technology is a driving force in engaging students, especially 8th graders in 2012. They live and breathe technology. No wonder they are not interested in a lesson on the whiteboard or taking daily notes. When my students are disengaged, they do not learn.

My 7th and 8th graders attend a school with almost 100% of students receiving free lunch.

My students are all low-income African-Americans whose life trajectory is handicapped simply because of the zip code they they were born in. The children in my class are all bright and curious, but have constantly been told they are not good enough. They are even shown that they are not good enough when their school is unable to provide the resources necessary for success. My students have slipped through the system, making it to 8th grade on a 3rd grade reading level. For many of my students, this year is an integral part of their life not only to get into high school but to survive.

My Project

A projector will greatly increase engagement in my classroom. With a projector, I will be able to create more organized and interesting daily lessons for my students. Also, I will be able to move throughout the classroom better, thus giving individual students the help they they deserve. Right now, I am unable to do so because I must continue giving the notes for the my students on the whiteboard. A projector will also allow me to bring technology into my classroom. I will be able to hook students with videos, show news clips and do other things that require the Internet and a screen. It is important for my students to be exposed to technology as our world becomes more and more technologically advanced. I want my students to be prepared for the future.

No students should be deprived on an excellent education.

No students should not be given the proper resources to learn. Millions of students across the city,across America,are exposed to technology in their classroom. Why not mine?
