My Project

The chemistry products listed here will provide students in a low-income community with the unique opportunity to receive hands-on experiences that could spark curiosity that lasts a lifetime. Students will make their own glowsticks, make elephant toothpaste, and learn what endothermic and exothermic reactions look and feel like! One symptom of inequitable school funding is that many students in lower-income communities do not get the chance to partake in quality hands-on experiments, due to the cost of materials.

Such valuable hands-on experiences give students something to which they can root their learning, and build their understanding of difficult concepts and ideas.

However, these experiences are also the framework that can inspire students to love learning and set goals for their future careers and interests. For many students in my community, college is not on their immediate radar. However, a special and inspiring experiment could ignite that flame for higher education, providing the fuel that will send these students and their families rocketing towards a brighter future.
