Help me give my students action-packed, relatable, fiction novels to dive in to! Specifically targeted for the boys in my classroom, these books will be sure to capture their attention.
I teach students who are talented, passionate and joyful about living life! They are beautiful humans who love interacting with each other! My students however do not have a passion for reading. I teach reading intervention and my audience of students think that reading is hard and boring. I am often met with blank stares and outright defiance when it comes to reading independently. I have discovered, however, that books read in community have a magical effect on middle schoolers.
Additionally, I find that there is one population of students who is more resistant to reading: middle school boys.
There are fewer books available to them that contain strong male characters and relatable situations. I would like to change that.
I am asking DonorsChoose to help me add to my classroom library so that it includes a diverse selection of books with strong male protagonists. Additionally, I want to engage all readers by offering multiple copies of titles so that students can collaborate and discuss stories together. I believe that the requested titles will help spark the passion for reading in my classroom!
