My Project
Embracing Hope: A Journey with "The Science of Breakable Things"
This year, I have the joy of teaching 30 exceptional students who are excited about entering fifth grade.
It is a time of growth, exploration, and learning. One of the exciting things I want to do this year is read a wonderful book called "The Science of Breakable Things" by Tae Keller. This book tells a unique story that teaches us about hope and resilience.
Understanding the Book
"The Science of Breakable Things" follows the journey of a young girl named Natalie. Natalie faces challenges as she navigates her feelings about her mother’s struggles. Throughout the story, she learns about the importance of hope, even when things seem difficult. The book uses science as a metaphor to explore how hope can be fragile yet powerful. Just like fragile objects can break, our hopes can sometimes feel delicate. However, the story shows us that hope is strong and can help us through tough times.
Reading the book is important for us as fifth graders, as it encourages us to think about our own hopes and dreams. We can learn from Natalie’s experiences and understand that it’s okay to feel sad or confused. The book teaches us that, like science, life can be unpredictable, but we can always find ways to mend our broken hopes.
As we embark on this adventure together, I am excited to see how this book will inspire my students. Through Natalie’s journey, we will discover that hope is not breakable. It can grow, change, and strengthen us as we face the challenges of fifth grade and beyond. I look forward to exploring this amazing book with my class and fostering a supportive environment where every student feels valued and heard.
