My Project

I teach students who are talented and passionate and joyful about so many things! They are beautiful humans with an appetite for living. My students HOWEVER do NOT have an appetite or a passion for reading. I teach reading intervention and my audience of students think that reading is hard and boring. I am often met with blank stares and outright defiance when it comes to reading independently. I have discovered, however, that books written in verse seem to have a magical draw for struggling readers!

When my struggling readers pick up a book written in verse, they surprise themselves with how quickly they fall for the plot.

They are hooked! I have had multiple students say, "This is the first book I have ever finished!"

I am asking Donors Choose to provide me with a diverse selection of books written in verse in order to create a book club library for my struggling readers. I want to give all of my students the pride and satisfaction of finishing a novel, cover to cover.
