My Project

Teaching 7th grade .. aka the Hot Mess Express...can be quite challenging! Being a middle school student is also pretty tough at times (we all remember!). Between the social anxiety, puberty, and learning new academic material in a large classroom of 30+ students, it can really be a lot. Therefore, every September I strive to create a calm, structured environment to help my students start out the year on the right track. I set my students up for success by providing them with the basic supplies they need to stay organized in my classroom: notebooks and folders.

The notebooks provided by DonorsChoose will be filled with notes, essay drafts, dates, and charts of American history.

Throughout the school year, we'll be studying Native Americans, the true stories of the encounters between Columbus and the Tainos, early colonial societies such as Jamestown, slavery and inequity in early America, as well as the American Revolution.

To start the year off, each student will get a designated, color-coded folder for Marking Period 1. Keeping one folder for every marking period really helps my students declutter and keep their backpacks relatively neat and streamlined. When Marking Period 2 rolls around, they'll get another folder for that part of the year. They take pride and ownership over their school supplies, and really appreciate a fresh folder for each marking period.
