Preschoolers Learn Through Play!

My Project

Thank for this opportunity! My students are special education students that have an Individual Education Program, IEP. These students have moderate to intensive needs in many areas of learning and development. Students at this age learn through play.

Hands on learning experiences are how these students discover the world and learn.

The marble run would provide opportunities for students to practice social skills, such as turn-taking, waiting, and cause and effect. The alphabet and number puzzles promotes sequencing and letter/number recognition. The play sets friends clubhouse, ponies play set, space vehicles and cash register are toys that build language skills as students play together. While playing with these play sets, they practice new language techniques, practice social skills and have social interaction. These toys provide the prompts and materials that SDC Preschooler students need to facilitate imagination. The water beads are excellent for sensory input and calming students that have a hard time regulating their behavior. We use these water beads to help students lower their anxiety and physical outbursts. The magnetic shapes provide fine motor opportunities and color and shape recognition.

These toys help our little ones with the most special and intensive needs. Early intervention is important to providing the students with support they need and learning experiences that benefit their unique special needs.
