Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

When it comes to learning, Bell Hooks (1994) explicates the need for it to be centered in inclusive multiculturalism that can be affirming and always present, whether or not BIPOC students are.

In this class, I connect student reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills to a culturally sustaining work.

Students work collectively to grapple with and analyze the lyrics and write a critical analysis. I plan to use these additional texts for lit. circles and work to expose students to knowledge that is often obfuscated and made fungible. This text collection will allow me to explore the benefits of incorporating historically excluded voices into the classroom.
