This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What makes the students at Austin Environmental Science Academy special is their inherent curiosity and passion for the natural world. They are enthusiastic learners who actively seek opportunities to engage with the environment and explore its wonders. With a unique focus on environmental education, the students already demonstrate a keen understanding of sustainability and ecological concepts beyond their years. Their open-mindedness and willingness to embrace innovative learning experiences make them ideal candidates to benefit from the introduction of an aquaponics tank. By nurturing their innate curiosity and passion, the school aims to empower these students to become responsible environmental stewards and catalysts for positive change in their communities and beyond.

The introduction of an aquaponics tank at Austin Environmental Science Academy will significantly impact the student's learning experience by providing a tangible and immersive learning platform for students to witness the intricacies of symbiotic relationships between the goldfish and plants.

Observing the direct cause-and-effect relationship between fish waste and plant growth will make ecological concepts come alive, enhancing their understanding of natural processes. This hands-on experience will foster a deeper connection with nature and inspire a greater sense of responsibility toward environmental conservation.

The goals for this project are twofold. Firstly, it aims to enhance the students' understanding of ecological concepts, sustainability, and the importance of interconnectedness in the natural world. Through the aquaponics system, the students will learn valuable lessons about self-sustaining ecosystems and the significance of balance in the environment. Secondly, the project aims to instill a sense of curiosity, wonder, and enthusiasm for the next generation of environmentally conscious leaders.
