This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach a group of 25 teens with autism. My students take classes in both sped and gen ed. They utilize sensory tools to help them stay focused and be successful in school. Sensory tools stimulate the brain, helping to create new neural pathways for processing, understanding, and reacting to sensory information. They can help students focus, calm down, and/or relax. Often times my students engage in stimulatory behavior that can be stigmatizing as a teen. The sensory tools also help them keep their body in check so that they can channel their sensory needs in more socially appropriate ways. Thank you so much for supporting our classroom!
