Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Today's students need to be engaged during a lesson in order to access the curriculum. Using class materials, such as, individual whiteboards, hence the whiteboard markers/erasers, allow for students to be involved during the lesson. We use them for practice work or a way to do a quick check-in to see who understands the material or to play a game. By having individuals whiteboard markers and erasers saves time, as well as, makes it more "fun".
The students get excited when I ask them to take out their whiteboards because they know it's an active part of the lesson.
We also do a lot of writing in both my ELA and Social Studies' classes, so, the students are sharpening pencils all day long. Therefore, pencil sharpeners do not last for long in my classroom. An industrious pencil sharpener would fair much better, especially if I receive a separate sharpener for colored pencils. Colored pencils seem to jam the pencil sharpeners eventually.
