I teach at a Title I low income school. The students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Many students come to school with a lot on their minds and lack of sleep because of their life outside of school.
I want to provide the students with a room that they can use to help them calm their minds and bodies down.
Sensory/Calm Down Rooms are so important to have at school. They can be used to help a student calm down and focus when they are overwhelmed and can't handle their emotions. Students can't focus on learning if they are thinking about multiple things at once. I am hoping this room will help all students learn to improve their processing skills.
I teach a self contained special needs class with students K-5. My students are very special to me. Many of them I am privileged to have multiple years before they move on to middle school. I have been learning how important sensory processing can help all children, not just children with special needs.
