Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are diligent and attend a top high school in Manhattan. Most want to become doctors and attend a medical assisting program at NYU or Columbia. One or two have decided to become lawyers, and one already attends Columbia on Saturdays to prepare for the career path.

They are hardworking and diligent, and they are at a high school that boasts a 97 percent graduation rate, however, they are falling behind in their Regents tests because of not having graphing calculators.

They are too expensive to purchase. They cost too much money for the school as well, and I cannot afford them either.

My students are special needs students.

I have taught for ten years as a professor overseas and am now transitioning into public school teaching.

I have spent my own paycheck on other supplies, but these calculators are beyond my reach.

My Project

We are doing construction right now, and we are about to move onto proofs.

I can buy two of these on my budget for kids who really cannot afford them, but they cannot use their calculators on their phones on their Regents.

They will fail without a graphing calculator.

This school is dedicated to equity and culturally responsive teaching as well as rigorous evidence-based instruction. We are only able to accept 6 percent of the students who wish to come here, but that doesn't mean our student body is well-off financially.

We are asking for your help so that we can get these kids passing their Regents and on to the next phase of their lives--medicine and law.

I am proud to be a teacher of such great kids.

We will use them as class calculators and as test calculators. We won't be sending them home.
