Help me give my students non-fiction books that represent the range of student interests (e.g., sports, survival, strong women), so that they can immerse themselves in the history as they read!
Reading is such an important part of 6th grade, and I am so glad to have such eager readers in my class. Throughout the year, we read all sorts of books, about so many different topics, which teach so many important skills. One of my favorite units of is our narrative non-fiction unit.
Students develop critical reading comprehension skills when they read nonfiction, including learning how to navigate more complex text and synthesize information, and developing background knowledge allows them to make connections across a variety of subject areas.
In this project, I have requested high-interest nonfiction books to use for our reading unit on narrative nonfiction. These books represent the range of student interests (e.g., sports, survival, strong women), their reading levels, and their own backgrounds. This way, I know I'll have the perfect book for each child. I've requested a few copies of each book, so that I'll be sure to have enough.
The ability to read and comprehend nonfiction is such an important skill. Thank you for helping me help my students master it!
