There is no denying that the last few school years have been rough on every age group, but it took a very big toll on my high schoolers and adolescents. I teach English (both general and co-taught) and Positive Psychology and many, if not most, of my students, struggle emotionally and with anxiety. I was already practicing meditation and mindfulness in Positive Psychology, but I started practicing with my other classes as well and it was very well received. The students enjoyed it so much that they came to ask for it quite a bit. They self-reported that mindfulness improved their emotional health, relieved anxiety and helped prepare them for learning in class and throughout the day.
I would like to create a more comfortable environment in the classroom for mindfulness and meditation to continue the practice this year, and the floor cushions would help students relax and put their minds at ease.
Having a comfortable place to sit on the floor would help students' minds get ready for learning content and material as well as help promote the social and emotional help we all need right now. I could also use the cushions for group work and Socratic Seminars without moving desks around. Please help students by giving to my project and creating a special space for their minds and bodies this year.
