Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students love to read! They visit the library often and check out a large number of titles. I would like to offer more titles of a social justice nature to round out our collection. Most of these titles contain stories of amazing characters of color, varying abilities, religions, and socio-economic status.
Research shows that students' empathy levels rise when they read about characters different from them. Additionally, students feel affirmed when they read about characters with whom they share common experiences. Our students will benefit from reading about these characters in these books.
