My Project
As a second year teacher, I am still in the process of building a diverse and robust classroom library for my incoming first graders. My classroom serves a wide range of backgrounds, ethnicities and cultures. I would love for my classroom library to represent all of these amazing students and their families. Everyday there is a built-in time for a read aloud and for students to read independently during readers workshop. Access to diverse books at different reading levels that my students find interesting is one of my main priorities for my class library. This is where my students find the most joy. Through books my students are able to escape to new adventures and explore the world without having to leave class. My students also get the opportunity to learn that our world is made up of beautifully different people from different places.
These books will continue to enhance our class library by adding more diversely rich books. The books selected are books about diverse characters, backgrounds, and reading levels. It is important to me that my students can see themselves in the books available in the library and in our read aloud.
