Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I have amazing students in grades 4-7 who work hard and want to do well. However, I have noticed that many of them come in day in and day out with dirty uniform clothes. Having clean clothes is so important to learning because when we have clean clothes we feel good about ourselves and have self confidence that we need to do well in school. I have noticed that the students who have dirty clothes often don't feel good about themselves and lack confidence. I see many students not want to sit next to students who have dirty clothes and when the students start to notice this, it is hurtful to the student who does not have the clean clothes. Many of my students live in large families where parents work long hours and may not have the time to wash clothes on a daily basis or they don't have machines in their homes or apartments to just wash clothes at all hours of the day and night.

By giving my students new uniform pants, you are helping my students feel good about themselves so that they can focus on learning and take away the stigma of not having basic necessities.

Children want to look good and fit in with their peers. I want my students to have a positive school experience and this will help all my student who do not have the clothes that they need, get clean uniform clothes so that they can learn without worrying about things like uniforms.
