My Project

My fifth-grade students will be starting a new literacy unit at the end of February on innovation and inventors. During the study, students will be learning about inventions like the toilet and innovators like the Wright brothers.

With so many inventors in our history, I want my classroom library to have a foundation of books centered around Black inventors.

My students this school year are passionate about their Black identities. We have connected Black history throughout our literacy units as we learned about Westward Expansion, the Civil War, and space exploration. I look forward to the questions and wonderings my students will have as we explore this new unit together.
