Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Since teaching 5th-grade reading, I've been striving to instill a love for reading in my students. We spend a lot of time at the beginning of the year talking about what reading means to them, and I try to learn their interests, so I know what they want to read about. To add an extra level of motivation, I want to continue to add new books I know they love to our classroom library, as well as snacks that they can have while reading.

Reading takes students on a journey, and snacks will help make it an experience that they want to participate in.

My plan is to make silent, uninterrupted, reading fun (SURF) a time when they have a delicious snack while they read. It will be the classroom equivalent of going to the movies, except their "movie" is a book they can't get their eyes off!
