5th Grade Lasting Legacy

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, I will continue to have the pleasure of teaching and assisting in building our gifted program. They are smart, funny, witty, and highly capable students who deserve every resource money can buy to help them succeed in education and in life. I want their final year of elementary to be memorable.

The current 5th grade students want to leave their mark on our school and create something to help improve the beauty.

Most of the students in this local, small neighborhood school have been enrolled since Pre-K and it would be such an honor for them, as the first full-time gifted class, to leave a mark on the school. They have such an artistic ability. More than half of the class is enrolled in art club and extracurricular activities involving sports or clubs. Some students are working on becoming Olympic gymnasts, which others are working on joining competitive sports teams. They want to become doctors, lawyers, architects and teachers.

My Project

My fifth graders have been with me in the gifted program now for two years. They have worked hard and love their school! When we work in our gardens, they still remember the plants they planted in second grade. I want them to have those memories from their time in 5th grade!

We would like our 5th grade class of 2020 to leave a lasting legacy as they depart their final year of elementary school.

We have two butterfly gardens and our own class vegetable garden in the field behind the school. I want the students to create stepping stones with the modeling clay and design them with the mosaic stones. They will shape their stepping stones with the hexagonal mold. Our goal is to have them leave their mark on the school by leaving something tangible behind. Our beautiful butterfly garden could use stepping stones to help make a path to walk through and making mosaic stepping stones would be a lasting legacy.
