My Project

My students are resilient learners who always try to make do with what they have. I serve students of all walks of life including immigrant refugees, students with unstable home lives, special education students, and English language learners. Next year, I will be switching grades to teach 5th grade and my role will change to become a departmentalized math teacher. This is where each teacher only teaches one or two subjects. My role will be to teach math to the entire fifth grade (approximately 120 students).

In the past our school has received plenty of resources for reading but not for math, so I wanted to update my classroom with new, helpful, and relevant supplies.

I wanted to include books in our classroom library that would be connected to the math topics we will learn about. I included manipulatives, which students need to help master difficult math concepts. I also included some building/stem activities to use for centers or choice time.

Students from a young age are exposed to so many resources for reading and writing, but the same cannot be said for math. These students need the help to succeed and gain the fundamental math skills that they will need moving forward in their school career.

Included in my project are supplies that I might need to help aid the students in their learning. One example is the standing white board, this item would be extremely helpful when I have a small group to work with to provide intervention. Another example is the ink and colored paper, both of which I use to print out resources and references for the students to utilize in class.
