We are a school located near Tampa, Florida with a high poverty rate. We serve over 2,000 students. We are a performing arts public charter school. I encourage, teach, and mentor my students through the arts.
Artsy people are unique and beautiful people to be near; they inspire others to do, think about, and become more than they already are.
I teach earth and space science to 150 middle school students. My students are eclectic and artistic. They are preteens and teens full of ambition and emotions. They are sensitive, smart, sweet, and talented. They care about what they are learning and who they are learning with. Many are very humorous, and some are insecure and are looking for a safe place to just be themselves. My classes are inclusive and full of diversity.
My Project
I am requesting 150 5D diamond crafting and painting kits under the theme of space and our universe.
Students will be painting with small sparkling "diamonds" in a painting by number format.
There are many different space themed pictures to choose from, including moon evenings, far away galaxies, planets, and more. The colors kids get to use are just fantastic and striking.
I did this last year with students as we were learning about the universe and I had so many kids comment about how much they loved doing it, I'm trying to gain access to the kits for students this year also. Working on the 5D diamond craft allows students to destress and contributes to wellness. Kids talk with each other about what they are crafting and also help each other.
