My school is a public charter school providing students (learners) in grades 6-8 a hands-on STEAM, aerospace-focused, and project-based curriculum. We are the first school in the nation to be located right at an airport in Englewood, Colorado. We are part of the CDE (Colorado Department of Education) and the CCSI (Colorado Charter School Institute).
Our learners come from all over the Denver area, from Franktown to Aurora to Arvada and beyond.
This diversity brings different perspectives to our classrooms. Some of our learners have been homeschooled and some are just looking for a different type of school and have found their home at CSA!
Our learners are creative thinkers and very excited about learning! Our curriculum focuses on core academic competencies, in addition to key focus areas that will prepare learners for promising careers in aerospace and technology. I have 100 7th grade learners this year. I teach 7th grade math and Algebra. I also teach a music elective that includes teaching students how to read music and play the piano.
My Project
My students will be learning about different types of instruments that are played in a band and/or symphony, like the woodwinds and the brass instruments. They will learn how to read music and learn about, bass clef, treble clef, 3/4 time and 4/4 time. Once they learn how to play the piano from reading the music, they will have the opportunity to create their own music and write the music using the treble and bass clef. Not only does this give them the skill of reading and playing music, it also gives them the ability to be creative in a way that is very rewarding. It will be music to their ears!!!!
