My students encompass the entire school. As their librarian, I am proud of their creative thinking and want to provide the tools that they need to develop into life-long learners. Their ages range between 11 and 14 and their abilities range across their age span. Our students are working toward becoming responsible and self-sufficient humans. The library is more than just a place to check out books. They come to the library to understand learning happens outside the classroom. We explore the world and share our ideas.
My Project
By the time many students reach middle school, they feel like they "hate" reading. All too often, they don't actually hate reading at all. They've just been forced to read very specific "classic" books for school.
Manga and graphic novels are genres that get checked out frequently by my reluctant readers.
I would really love to build the collection for my students. Many of them connect with these types of books. I am trying to instill the love of books into my teens here at the library. Many of my students love sharing the manga/anime fandom with me. They have given me a list of titles they would like to see in the library.
