Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Some of the students in my classroom have autism, and some are nonverbal, but this does not define who they are. My students are individuals - they have personalities, they have feelings, they have wants and needs - just like all the other kids in the school. My students are funny, caring, and smart (oh so smart!). They want and deserve the same opportunities and experiences as other students in the school and I want that for them too. All of my students are capable of learning, and my classroom helps them learn how to learn.
My Project
The activities described below will allow my students to have hands-on experiences and resources available to them that they were not able to have during the COVID shutdown.
Students will create graphic displays using the Cricut machine to demonstrate their understanding of the topics discussed.
SL.6.5 Include multimedia components (e.g., graphics, images, music, sound) and visual displays in presentations to clarify information.
Students will utilize the Tacky the Penguin books during both free reading and structured reading time to strengthen their fluency and decoding skills.
RF.5.3.a Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. a. Use combined knowledge of all letter-sound correspondences, syllabication patterns, and morphology (e.g., roots and affixes) to read accurately unfamiliar multisyllabic words in context and out of context.
