My Students

I teach 26 dynamic second and third graders in a small, Title I public school in Northern California. My students come from diverse cultural backgrounds and family situations; yet, we come together as a class. My students each have their own learning struggles and strengths; yet, each child's individual needs must be met in our second grade​ classroom.

Each student learns differently; yet, each child has to master second and third grade Common Core standards.

As their teacher, I must find different ways to help each child meet those standards, in two different grade levels!

My Project

My students write every day in class as a part of Writer's Workshop. They write true stories that are important to them from their own lives. They add juicy details and edit their work.

What better way to celebrate writing than to turn their stories into books that will last a lifetime?

I want to allow my students to feel like real authors as they write one special story in a blank hardcover book. Softcover books will allow students to write multiple stories throughout the year that they are especially proud of. Writing stories in books is empowering for young learners.
