My students are great. They love learning, and they enjoy coming to school. My students are mostly immigrants or children of immigrants. Many are English language learners (ELLs). Nearly all students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch because their family household incomes are below the poverty line.
My school is a large, crowded school in a very large, urban district.
This past year, we have had a lot of budget cuts. Several staff from our school were cut. Most of our budget has been used to keep the teachers and staff that we do have. Even though the school has limited resources, students have some of the highest test scores in the area.
My Project
My students have been remote learning for over a year. Most of my students have decided to remain remote for this quarter. Many of my students have had sick family members this year. Parents have lost jobs. It has been a struggle to put food on the table. There has been violence and looting in the neighborhood. It has been a hard time for my students.
My students need art supplies for self expression.
After more than a year of remote learning, my students are craving hands-on and creative projects. With these materials, my students will learn about French artists and create their own artwork. My students will use the oil pastels and watercolors to create paintings. They will use the brushes and Qtips to explore different painting techniques. They will use the markers to create posters and books. They will use the green paper and tissue paper to make collages. They will use the stamps to learn how dots can blend together to create an image. I know my students will squeal with delight when they see the supplies. These materials will be a huge help in helping my students heal from a very hard year.
