Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the only school counselor for over 600 amazing students. Ninety percent of our students are Latino, and 76% are from low-income families. About 11% of our students are considered special needs. Our students are bright and creative and come from hard-working, loving families that want to see their children succeed.
Not being physically in school has been a challenge for many students, families, and teachers, but we are all trying the best we can with what we have.
My Project
This has been the most interesting school year ever. As many other schools, we started our year learning remotely, then some of our students gradually started returning in late February. Our students have missed so many milestones and have experienced unique challenges due to the pandemic. With only a couple months of our students being physically present in school, we did not have a chance to capture enough memories for a yearbook. If this year has taught us anything, it's that we need to document the current times we are living in.
An instant camera and film will be the best way to instantly capture the few remaining memories we will share with our students this unique year.
We all have so many photos on our phones and other digital devices, but there's nothing like the instant joy of watching a photo develop right before your eyes and keeping that picture for a lifetime.
