This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 2nd-grade students are such eager learners! I am greeted by virtual smiles and high fives every day during our remote learning times. These days are tough for everyone involved, but my families have shown resiliency through it all! I have the best parents and students ever! The come to our live meets with a burning desire to learn.
My students are from a low-income neighborhood in the heart of Chicago where this pandemic has hit families very hard.
Yet, they rise and put on a happy face.
I thrive when my students thrive. They love learning and enjoy school. Many of my families do not have internet service or a device to properly work from home. A parent of one of my students said that they live in the basement and sometimes the service goes out and it's hard for them to log on sometimes so it's especially important for me to work with all of my scholars using materials that will be engaging and have a huge impact. My 2nd graders have already proven that they can persevere even in the toughest times.
My Project
My students are in need of a variety of supplies for interactive and engaging assignments/projects. We need post-it notes to write quick responses to reading questions and to write down what we notice and wonder. For example, students have been investigating how butterflies sense the world around them. How do butterflies find their food for example. We recently went outside to create sound maps and students used their post-its and pens to capture the sounds they heard outside. Students use the post-its to write down new discoveries and post it on the wall. Students need dry erase markers for their white boards to write down a math problem or just to practice their writing. Also, students love to use different pens to write creative stories or just to write a note to each other. Please help give my students much needed school supplies.
