I am requesting supplies for students currently in my 6th-grade class. There 88, 6th graders, who range in age from 11 and 12-year-olds, at a charter school. They are very energetic and enjoy learning every day. Our school is 1:1 iPads. My students are mostly in class with a few virtual for this school year.
My students are love to investigate and experiment with new tools and activities.
They are curious, enthusiastic, and creative; my students are eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge. I enjoy seeing them grow academically and become more independent every day through our virtual means. They love to solve problems by talking to each other and to me. My joy comes when they realize that even though tasks are sometimes hard if they keep at it they will be successful.
My Project
My students will use the 130 pcs Magnetic Sticks and Balls Building Blocks Educational Learning Game STEM Toy, Brain Flakes 500 Piece Interlocking Plastic Disc Set, and resources from Teacher Pay Teachers to encourage them to build and design structures on their own and also those prescribed by the teacher. When students are given the freedom to build they are more successful and allow themselves to dream of a bigger designs.
Helping students discover their skills as an inventor is the goal of the teacher.
Watching students grow with the designs of their projects helps to guide the progress of the lesson. The classroom changes into an environment of acceptance. STEM builds inventors and scientist but it also builds community, acceptance, and teaches students perseverance.
