This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a second-grade teacher in the City of Chicago. This classroom of learners comes from ethnically diverse, low-income families. There are many challenges that face my learners. Our school provides free breakfast and lunch to all students. My classroom is comprised of English language learners, students with individualized education plans, and general education students.
My 30 students are ENERGETIC and EAGER to learn!
My goal is to provide these wonderful students with the educational opportunities necessary to become lifelong learners.
My Project
The array of titles in these mentor text collections will support my balanced literacy block. Students will be eager to come into school and participate in guided reading and writing small group instruction time. These books will support reading and writing mini lessons through the use of close reading. Reading goals such as understanding story elements, themes, and main ideas can be supported. Writing goals of generating and collecting ideas, focus and meaning, as well as, organization and structure can be addressed utilizing the various genres in these 30 book titles.
