Every day, I have the privilege of being able to see two dozen smiling students, eager and ready to learn. I teach in an urban school with students from a wide range of backgrounds. After almost a year of remote learning, my students have made the switch to hybrid learning. Providing appropriate tools to reach students where they are is more important than ever!
One of the biggest needs for my students right now is the chance to engage in and devour a wide range of amazing books.
We have worked hard in remote learning, and moving to a hybrid model emphasizes the need for students to have materials at their level. Many of my students are English language learners, and my class ranges widely in reading strengths and needs. However, they are all eager to learn and to enjoy a great book!
My Project
Our classroom library is a favorite part of our room. I strive to gather well-loved favorite series, books with strong and persistent characters, and nonfiction books about student-chosen topics such as sharks, outer space, and famous people.
Unfortunately, our classroom library is in major need of a refresh!
We do not have enough bins to hold our growing collection. Currently, bins include books about more than one topic, or topics are not clearly sorted because of space constraints. By adding new book bins to our library, students and I can better organize our books so titles are readily accessible. We also need more labels to put on each book to make sure books end up back in the correct bins.
Having the right tools to refresh our library will provide my third graders with better access to the books we love. Thank you for your support!
