My Students

My chorus students range from 9th through 12th grade and are a diverse population of young people. While my students have many differences (such as social status, race/ethnicity, primary language, and country of birth to name a few), we all come together to make beautiful music through singing. Sometimes, we sing pieces of music that celebrate the differences among a wide variety of cultures, and other times we sing music that focuses on the things that all people have in common. We sing music that expresses pain and hurt as well as music that expresses joy and hope. Above all else, my students strive to perform music that is meaningful with enthusiasm and expressivity.

My Project

This iPad Pro will allow me to have a digital library of chorus music. All of the choral literature that we go through in a year can now be kept in one location for me to peruse and find the perfect piece of music for the students in my classes.

Having this tool in my classroom will enhance the instruction I give to my students.

When I'm ready to move to another selection, I can pull up the next piece faster by creating a playlist. When I need to circle a measure in the music as a note to come back to this spot another day, I can simply use the annotation tools to make a quick note and move on to the next section. When I'm talking about a specific detail about the music notation or the text of a song, I can use the large screen to zoom in on the subject of discussion and provide visual aids to my students who might be lost and need a little help.
