My Students
The little engineers in my classroom are very excited and exercise their curiosity to the fullest extent. My students are from a high-poverty neighborhood in Chicago. Even though it is really hard to live in their community with a high level of violence, they strive hard to be successful and practice being critical thinkers daily.
Our school's main focus is STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), so my ultimate goal is to ensure that my students receive an enriched education that leads them to be the best independent learners possible.
They have shown that they love working on hands-on projects, especially in science and math this year.
My Project
Hygiene health has become a sensitive but also overwhelming life experiencing situation in our classroom. The little scholars in our classroom are in need of personal hygiene items to use during the remote learning pandemic. This month we were discussing all of their fears and phobias and it personally hurt to know they expressed more concern about being "Bullied" due to the smell of their own bodies. After giving this scary situation much thought, I came up with a solution that may help them. I felt personally responsible for educating my little scholars on how to stay clean even when they do not have the resources or support to do so. Starting from the bottom to the top the goal of this project is to promote to the scholars that healthy living does include being able to provide personal care for themselves.
