My Students
This year I have a diverse learners classroom of twenty-five 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. They are all excited to learn and love to play games. They are all uniquely different in their own ways and they are doing a really great job getting along with one another. I have a student who loves to watch the train go by the classroom. I have a student who loves to learn sign words. I have a student who always makes us laugh. I have a student who loves to be a leader. I have a student who loves to write little thank you notes with beautiful drawings. Lastly, I have a student who is far behind but is never discouraged. They all work so hard and crave learning new things. This year we are going to be working on the love of reading. I want to build my classroom library into a sanctuary for my students.
My Project
I want to give my students at home and in person access to digital reading that is fun and engaging. Now that their computer skills have gotten better, I think the scholastic StoryWorks magazine is perfect for my students.
This magazine will allow them access to exciting literature paired with comprehension questions to help solidify not only their fluency, but also their understanding of the text.
My students are from the South Side of Chicago and have struggled a lot this year due to the pandemic. Many of them have missed the whole school year due to their home situation. They and need a fun way to get excited about independent reading.
