Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with Low-income, Latino students in the historic Little Village neighborhood of Chicago. They are strong students with hearts and minds striving to achieve, they just need the academic support to get there
My students seek to be more than their neighborhood or background, they stretch to become more than ever before.
We have students who come from all backgrounds, abilities, and understandings. They find a way to grow and become more every day, and as their teacher, it reminds me how much I must give to be the best I can be. I want to expose them to every opportunity I can and hope to inspire a love of history in them by making it relevant, real, and honest. Even when the narrative is dark, difficult, or emotionally taxing my students manage time and time and time again to understand with their hearts and minds the whole of the narrative, pushing to see its importance to today and the future.
My Project
Students in my community are the intersections of two populations, preteens and low income. With warmer weather approaching, and all of them active here at school, having a supply of deodorant and snacks will help keep the classroom going strong.
Students deserve to feel confident in school, and personal care is a critical part.
The products will enable them to focus on what they need to really get done in the room, not their looks or needs. Sports is a crucial way of helping these students stay healthy all year round, and with many of them coming to school hungry the snacks will only help them be better competitors!
