First grade is an adventure! My students come with some basic skills and knowledge of how to be in school but we truly lift off into independent learning and reading during this grade level.
My students are curious and creative, ready and willing to learn!
My absolute favorite thing about teaching this age is when they discover they can do it themselves! "Look at me! I read that!" While some of them come from hard home lives and situations, our classroom gives every child an equal opportunity to learn, love, and inquire! They are truly a gift to me and teach me as much as I'm teaching them.
My Project
It is no secret that the pandemic has affected education, my students are returning (and next year's will be as well) after learning from home for an extended amount of time. One of my goals, as a teacher, is to maximize their attention and focus while at school. These wobble chairs will increase student attention and focus!
My young students need to be able to move safely within my classroom.
I want my students to be active and feel welcome and comfortable in the classroom. These wobble seats will allow my students to get wiggles out while still being engaged in learning. Flexible seating is also a great way to engage student choice and teach good decision-making.
All of my students will be given access to these wobble seats on a daily basis and will benefit from the movement. These chairs also allow for stronger core development and posture while they are using them. Kids this age need to move and I want to provide that movement for them in the classroom during those long stretches of learning.
