Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My school is a public school serving the West side of Chicago. My students are predominantly African American and are driven to succeed and become college graduates. A mission of urban education is to empower youth to thrive in college and careers by giving them access to quality resources and an innovative teaching staff.

This is also an important year for my junior students and they are constantly reminded that the SAT test is approaching quickly.

There is very little time for my students to waste because they are working hard to improve their GPAs and SAT scores. Our students are hardworking and motivated to grow each day!

My Project

My students are challenged every day with the SAT curriculum, but sometimes they need to remember the basics. This class set of headphones will allow students to watch videos on their own so that they can fill in their own skill gaps. For example, there are video lessons ranging in difficulty that I created on linear equations that I am excited to share with the students.

This project will help my students grow mathematically because the headphones will allow students to access the curriculum at their own pace.

The former is especially important this school year because when we return to the classroom, the students will need to catch up on math skills they've missed due to the pandemic.
