Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach grades 7 through 12 in a large city school. My school is 46% low-income and is ethnically diverse. Five percent of students have special education plans that utilize inclusion and pull-out programs. At this time, there are approximately 1,000 students taking music classes. These classes include piano, band, orchestra, choir, music theory, guitar, and music appreciation. I teach a diverse group of students that represent every ethnic group, religion, and economic status. I am very proud of how they come together to perform such beautiful music.
Only a handful of students can participate in private lessons outside of school, and many have limited exposure to professional performances.
I try to give my students everything they need to be successful in music. Working with my school community and grant writing is an essential part of my funding.
My Project
The keyboards in the keyboard lab need dust covers to extend their durability. I'm amazed at how much dust accumulates on the keyboards, especially when we store them over holidays and the summer break.
We are asking for seven multi-use piano keyboard covers to protect the keyboards.
We have invested a lot of money and time developing this awesome lab and we would like to keep everything working as long as possible. The covers will fit all the different size keyboards we have right now and will definitely do the trick. Thank you for taking the time to read this grant proposal!
