I am lucky to have 30 students who reside on the Southside of Chicago. My first graders have filled our virtual classroom with kindness, curiosity, and their love for learning. We are now months into virtual learning and nothing has changed.
Being six years old, online education is not what they should be experiencing.
Regardless, my scholars take it one day at a time and continue to amaze me. Nothing gets them down and they show up, all 30 of them, striving to meet their greatest potential. Some of my students will have come back to the classroom on April 12 and others will remain virtual.
I strive to be able to provide equitable resources for all my scholars, both in the classroom and those learning virtually. Funding will provide my students with basic learning materials such as coloring and writing utensils, manipulatives for math, fun activities to spark creativity, books to fill our library, individual learning resources, and much more.
Planning for engaging lesson plans can prove to be very time-consuming, yet very necessary. However, Teachers Pay Teachers has made it very easy to access those engaging activities. The activities that I have located on this website have drastically increased student engagement. Nevertheless, paying for these activities can become very expensive. My students need a $200 Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, so they can have access to the materials that will continue to engage them throughout virtual learning. Many people are concerned about an academic loss during this time. However, I am convinced that engaging, creative, activities will help sustain students intellectually until we are able to meet again.
