Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I work in Chicago, where the majority of my students cross gang territory to get to school. They do not get a chance to get outside to play or run around, often due to parental fears and hectic schedules of modern-day society.
Living in Chicago, each of my students has witnessed some type of violence and has experienced the loss of someone close to them during their young lives.
Safety is a major concern for our students. It is important that I give them the opportunity to move around when they are learning and I also need to make sure that they are safe when they enter my classroom if I am ever going to get them to learn. I like to think that my classroom is a second home to each student and my goal this year is to create a home-like atmosphere that they are comfortable being in so that they can learn to the best of their ability.
My Project
I have been working with my students in reading intervention for the past two years and many of them have read the same books over and over. For the upcoming school year, I would like to give them a new set of books to read from so that we can hone in on new comprehension skills.
These students have worked so hard, we have practiced the comprehension skills using the books that we have read over and over, it is time to give them the opportunity to apply the skills with new reading materials.
We have been working remotely all year so our selection has been limited and it would be wonderful to give them actual books to read from that they can take home to show their parents how well they are now reading.
I hope you will consider giving to my project, you will make a group of students very happy!
